Participants

We cordially invite interested students from all universities to take part in the HSoG MUN of the UNi-Gruppe. The Security Council, the primary body mandated with maintaining peace and security, will be concerned with the pressing issue of the crisis in East-Timor taking place after the referendum on the 30th of August, 1999.The results clearly showed that the Timoresian people demanded freedom and independence for their country. The Indonesian government, however, has failed to acknowledge those calls for self- determination.

We are looking for about 50 motivated delegates to represent the member states of the Security Council, regional actors, NGOs and the press. The 25 delegations will be represented by two to three MUN student diplomats each. A list of the participating states and non-state actors is included in the application form.

Application

If you are interested in applying for the HSoG MUN, please fill out the application form. Please send your application to modelun@uni-gruppe.de by November 26th 2008. You can apply for one of the following delegations:

Members of the Security Council
Bahrain, Brazil, China (PM), Costa Rica, France (PM), Gabon, Gambia, Japan, Kenya, Portugal, Russian Federation (PM), Slovenia, Sweden, United Kingdom (PM) and United States of America (PM)

Observing States
Indonesia, Australia, East-Timor

Observing Organizations
Amnesty International, ASEAN, Human Rights Watch, Press

We at the UNi-Gruppe will try our best to provide you with your preferred country. For documents and catering the fee will be 25 EUR. The conference language is English.

Preparation

For preparation purposes the participants will be provided with a Background Guide on the conflict in East Timor. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact us at modelun@uni-gruppe.de.

Additionally, there will be a mandatory Preparatory Meeting on 5th of December, 2008 with an introduction into the session. The MUN itself will take place from the 6th ‘till 7th of December, 2008. The Secretariat of the HSoG MUN of the UNi-Gruppe 2008 is very much looking forward to your application and is pleased to answer all your requests.
